Day: 4

Day 4: Essauira- Tafraoute

There are places where you can appreciate and enjoy the magnitude of the mountains, and one of them in particular is Tafraoute.   In this stage, we leave the coast to enter the Anti Atlas, for this we will go through fields planted with argan and almond trees, and if we are lucky, we will see the climbing goats. We will pass through Imouzzer, a town famous for its honey production, its landscapes and hiking trails. The route takes us to Taroudante, where we will spend the night.

The Anti-Atlas is a mountain range of more than 500km that runs practically from the Atlantic to Zagora.  In Tafraoute, a not very touristic area, we will stay in a small hotel, practically family-run, where we have been able to live with the family kids, who give life and charm to the hotel.

We leave Tafraoute, as we arrived, along winding roads that run through the Anti-Atlas, this time to the east, looking for the trade routes used by the caravans coming from the Sahara and beyond. The first part of the stage will be more dynamic, more mountainous, and we will descend little by little to cross long valleys flanked to the north by the Anti-Atlas and to the south by the Jebel Bani mountain range.

Geologically, these valleys are very unique, as millions of years ago, they were blind valleys, generating sedimentary plains, where most of the towns and villages are located today.  After arrival at the hotel, we will have time to take a bath, visit the “village”…

After the morning briefing, we drive to Foum Ziguid, the gateway to the Erg Chegaga desert, through the Anti-Atlas mountains, with breathtaking curves and landscapes, until we reach the valleys of the Anti-Atlas.

We leave the Jebel Bani mountain range behind us and arrive at a spectacular hotel to rest and enjoy its facilities.

Day 6: Foum Zguid - Dades Gorges

We will leave Zoum Zguid by the same road we arrived, crossing an immense valley, once a blind valley. A good, fast road that will take you to the most important gateway to the desert, Zagora. An essential stop for most of the caravans that travelled through the north of Africa, north/south.

Our road crosses the Draa River to cross the Anti-Atlas to reach El Dades, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains.

The vehicle documentation must be in the name of the person traveling with the vehicle. In the case that the vehicle is in the name of another owner, it will be necessary an authorization of this one and the photocopy of the DNI that legitimizes the authorization.

Security:
One of the most important sources of income of the Alawite country is tourism, currently one of the government’s objectives is to become a major tourist power, especially oriented to Europeans, which is why the tourist is usually quite pampered by the authorities, which ensure their welfare, the same goes for trade and people in general.
Nevertheless, it is not advisable to relax with the security measures that we usually take when we travel to any other country in the world.
The motorcycles will spend the night in closed enclosures, either from the hotel or under custody hired by the agency, this does not imply that Ruta Cero Tours assumes any responsibility in the event of any theft.
